Age Group Rank = 66/69
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area.
Swim
  • 31m 26s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got caught at the back of the pack for the start. Got several elbows and kicks. Had a hard time settling into a good pattern due to the breathing trouble from the cold I had the previous week. Once I got a good pattern going, was able to get a good glide and only had trouble sighting after the turn to come back when the sun was headon. This made it hard to see the buoys and I headed for the wrong one once.
What would you do differently?:

Start towards the front of the pack and break in my new goggles with the tinting.
Transition 1
  • 08m 22s
Comments:

Had trouble getting my wetsuit off but after that, all was good.
What would you do differently?:

Pam under the wetsuit.
Bike
  • 1h 40m 19s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 15.67 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't push the bike due to being sick the week before and wanting to save some for the run but I was comfortable with the pace and happy with the time.
Transition 2
  • 04m 26s
Run
  • 1h 25m 26s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 13m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt great the first 2 miles and then started to have my pace slip and after 3.5 miles started to feel drained and very hungry. I had to walk a couple of times. Run definately could have been better.
What would you do differently?:

Had another shot block earlier in the run. I really felt hungry around mile 4. I'm not sure if it's because I couldn't force myself to eat my whole breakfast this morning or if I should have fueled more. Fuel: 1 shot block before the swim, 1 before the bike, 1 on the bike, and 1 before the run.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Having just come off of being sick and not being able to train properly the week before the race really hurt me.

Event comments:

We were delayed at the start by 15 minutes due to fog.
