Overall Rank = 6/66
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

Coooold the morning of the race. My car thermometer showed 44 degrees. Walking around the wet grassy transition area in my flip flops left some cold.
Event warmup:

Swam a bit.
Swim
  • 25m
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Drafting wasn't good, on the other hand there wasn't really anyone to draft off of.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, was expecting a sub 19 minute downcurrent swim similar to spudman, but no big deal.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Exited the water fine, cap and goggles fell out of my sleeve on the run to my bike, ran back and grabbed them. Transition went fine, missed my saddle jumping on the bike and ran into another person :(

Getting into shoes went ok.
Bike
  • 1h 19m
  • 29 miles
  • 22.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike split, surprised the speed was only around 22mph, but still went fine.

Bike course felt pretty lonely, it was almost 10 minutes before I saw another person out there.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

T2 snuck up on me, took the turn off the loop portion of the bike course and almost immediately hit the dismount line. I wasn't ready and struggled to get my left foot out and off the bike before the line.
Run
  • 45m 30s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Good day overall. Tough to get motivated for my final kick, the guy in front of me was too far up to catch and nobody within a minute or so behind.
Post race
Event comments:

Fun race. Very small. I think the organizers would benefit from trimming down the race options. Oly, aquabike, fun run, 5k half mary, relay, HIM, HIM relay, duathlon etc etc... too many events and not enough people, the award ceremony was a cluster as well.

Hardware was pretty cool. I now have a very heavy slab of granite with a viking engraved on it.

6/66 OA and 1/3 in my AG. I hate to say it, but after having a tough season bumping to the 30-34 AG and to the Oly distance it was nice to be back on the podium even if I did have to find the worlds smallest event in Idaho to do it.

Split times are estimates from what I had on my stopwatch. Official race time is from the chip, no splits are available in the official results even though there were timing mats at T1 and T2.
