Swim
Comments: I hate wetsuits but the water was cold so I had to go with it. I had an ok swim but I didn't go very hard. I feel constricted in a suit and have a hard time really pushing. I know I could have gone harder but I'm ok with how it went. What would you do differently?: Push harder... I was fit enough to do much better Transition 1
Comments: It was a long run from the beach to the transition but I'm also horrible with removing my wetsuit. I did much better than previous wetsuit races but I've got good room for improvement. Bike
Comments: I got my first ever penalties on the course. I was caught behind a chatty girl pack that was very difficult to shake. They clearly were working off eachother so everytime I passed they caught me again. Somehow I ended up with the penalties and they didn't ... oh well ... it not like I was in contention for the win so really no skin off my back. I will be more careful in Cozumel in November. Anyone who rides with me knows how adverse I am to getting close to any bike so 2 drafting penatlies for me is pretty funny. I don't even draft on training rides. Must mean I looked really badass out there :) What would you do differently?: I would have been more aggressive in shaking the pack in the early miles. I had it in me and was more than fine by the end of the bike. Transition 2
Comments: This was an awesome transtion for me. I didn't have my speed laces on so I even had to tie my shoes. I give myself a big pat on the back for this performance. Run
Comments: I did really well and would have had a killer run for me if my knee didn't give out at mile 9. I choose to walk a couple miles rather than risk really injuring it. I've got a marathon and IM later this fall so the risk wasn't worth it. I did finish the last mile at a jog. I had a ton left in me so I know if I didn't have the knee problem I could have been closer to a 9:20 pace. Post race
Warm down: I waited at the finish for my two fellow racers. I got to see the swarm of bees come through the finish area. Never saw that before. Standing around for half an hour was stupid as my knee got pretty bad... should have gotten ice on it right away. Event comments: I loved this race. Rev3 did a great job and the volunteers were terrific. You could tell they were really excited to have an event like this in their hometown. The post race food was not so great but I never really eat that much after a race anyway. Last updated: 2012-08-30 12:00 AM
