Total Time = 1h 17m 4s
Overall Rank = 130/270
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 9/19
Pre-race routine:

rode up with shauni. Got checked in and on the bus to swim start.
Event warmup:

no warm up, more like a cool down. Made the decision to not wear wetsuit, probably not the best decision. Water was a bit cold, doable but still should have worn it.
Swim
  • 18m 39s
  • 586 yards
  • 03m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

No wetsuit. BT gear. Thought water would have been a bit warmer. Jump into water from floating dock gave a bit of a shock. Took at little getting used to. Had to head to a buoy for the start which was 100 yds from dock. Ended up being short of the start when they hit the start horn, oh well. Super slow swim, just seemed I was not getting anywhere, I wonder if the tide was coming in or the course was long.
What would you do differently?:

wetsuit
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Looks like they gave everyone 3 minutes for the T-1 time. Not sure what is up with that. It was about a 1/4 mile or so to T-1. Other than that T-1 was normal.
Bike
  • 35m 18s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Hit the bike hard. Pushed hard on the hills up and down. Not familiar with the course which cut down on speed a bit. Computer showed 20mph average.

What would you do differently?:

review course
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Pretty good t-2. Tied shoes were a bit slow.
Run
  • 18m 12s
  • 2.35 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Got into a strong pace. Unfamiliar with course. Was targeting at 5k course so held a back. Suddenly finish line was there...way too early. Looks like they cut course short, may be due to longish trail to T-1. Wish I had know that, would have pushed a bit more.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit more, become familiar with course.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with shauni, my favorite daughter.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

wetsuit and course familiarity, weight

Event comments:

Scenic venue and course. Short but challenging. How many swim venues include getting up close and personal with the "mayflower"!!
