trying to get better at open water swimming - signed up for all 3 events in 2012.
Event warmup:

ran a bit, but this was an after work start time and I didn't realize how that might change things. should have done a solid 20min run w/ strides, but cut corners. bad idea.

It was at the line for wetsuit, so I wore mine. will not do so next year, but more confidence now. only a few wore wetsuit, kind of defeats the old school vibe.

There might be an advertised distance... but this is old school. be prepared for some error in buoy setting. don't complain, just swim.

I sighted my stuff off the powerlines and wore socks. For Old School Vista point you need to clean off the sand from your feet, but Harris lake was fine.

not really warmed up right. took some time to get into a flow. And as a near clyde I am a lumbering sack of potatoes. Ran near one person who was sucking air extremely loud. it's strange how that can throw you off a rhythm.

Old school was great. not fancy, chance to do a quick workout and open water swim. low key, and without the bikes makes for a different feel. plan to be back in 2013.
