Swim
Comments: I won the relay portion of the swim, and took 6/648 for the swim overall. Being a distance swimmer, and by that I mean my high school event is the 500 yard freestyle, I tried to race it in a similar fashion. I started out on a smooth pace, a nice easy kick. I think out of about 50 people in my heat, I was 6th 50 yards out. The one thing I noticed though is that while I kept the same pace for the majority of the race, most people only lasted with their opening pace for about 200 yards or less. By the time I got to the first buoy, I was in a three way race. The first person started to fall back when she got cut off by someone from the heat ahead of us at the turn. The second person I was in a race for until the end for the most part. I started to turn up my pace with around 200 yards left. By that time, I had caught a bit of a lead from the person behind me, and an even bigger one from the main part of my field. Now granted, I was only doing a single part of this race. The people that I was passing for the most part were doing the entire thing. What would you do differently?: When I do my first individual next week, I will need to take it out slower. I am aiming for somewhere in the 12-13 minute range. Transition 1
Bike
Transition 2
Run
Post race
Event comments: From what I could see the race was ran nicely. We were only on a delay of about 5 minutes or so. I can't say anything about the run or bike course, but at the conclusion of the race, the stands were well stocked to supply nutrition and nourishment to all runners. I was only doing the swim portion of the triathlon, so naturally I only warmed up in the lake. Being a year round swimmer, I did what I thought would be a moderate warm up, most likely more than what anyone else did. ~2000 yards.
