Pre-race routine:

Up early, 5ish or so, puttering around the house. Breakfast was a Honey Stinger waffle, cup of coffee, and some of Lainey's banana on the way to Wimberly. Drinking Gu electrolyte drink in a 24-oz bottle. Was certainly well-hydrated. Drove to Wimberly, unloaded the bikes, and we rode up to White Oak (my tradition for pretty much any race on the ATT is to ride to the start on the bike, usually from home to there for a 5k or the 10-miler, and in the case of the 2010 half-marathon, rode from Wimberly to USA baseball.
Event warmup:

Picked up bib number (11), then went for a 1.5 mile easy run with strides about 7:40. Back in time to pee 2 more times (?!?) and get lined up on the start line. Took one Ginsting at 7:45 on my warmup run.

Comments:

Winner was 28 (Taras Mitran), an active local runner and triathlete. 2nd place was Brian Washburn was 43 or so, also an active local runner and triathlete. We were separated by 7 seconds, and traded the lead a few times but settled in to 1-2-3 by mile 4. I was fine with a 3rd place given this was a tuneup for next weekend. Everything felt good, even though moments before the race I thought my legs would just be dead. They certainly were not in top form, but it was good enough to give me a good comfort level for next Sunday.
What would you do differently?:

Well, my plan was to not pass anyone in the first mile. Based on how I lined up, I only went past one kid who petered out about 1/4 mile into the run, and we set up in a nice 1-2-3 lineup. The guy in 4th eventually got past me for 2nd. I was very content to sit in right where I was, which I did. As we went through the first water stop, I only grabbed one to throw over my head, but guy in front of me tried to drink and it broke his stride. So I went around him, and was in 2nd. Then we continued to run like that for a bit, and we were really closing on 1st place without pushing the pace any more. I passed him just before the Wimberly access, and was in first until we got up to about MP3 or so, when 2nd started to ease up past me. I was content to stay in top 3.
What would I do differently? Well, I had enough gas left at the end to close the gap pretty well, and was only 1 second off 2nd place, so I think I could've got him had I stuck with it when I made my first push as we crossed Green Level Church. When he answered, I backed off, but then picked it back up when I heard footsteps behind me. Turns out the footsteps were 2nd place in the 5k (first had blown past us with a 16:XX run, damn!)
Post race
Warm down:

Found the kids, found Lainey, then went for a 1.5 mile cooldown, came back, and hung around for awards. Very neat for my boys to see this type of event, they will surely want to do it next year. Web seems proud that his old pop can still do this kind of thing, but I think it's growing old to Lainey.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not wanting to sacrifice my body this close to FS Half.

FS Series and 519 Church did a GREAT job on this event. Love the venue, loved the charity (Hearts with Haiti), and a great morning to run with all my Church brothers and sisters!

Course: From White Oak dog poop bag sign to a point nearly 3.1 miles out, then u-turn it back (was somewhere between MP 2.5 and the 64 bridge). So, it had the downhill to Wimberly and the uphill to the turnaround, then reverse so that it ended just after the flat starts when you cross Green Level Church. Certainly not the fastest surface to run on, but also pretty forgiving to the body with a big race coming up for me.
