Pre-race routine:

Ran the Red Oak Fun(D) run at Ravinia Park the day before. This was my daughter's (8) first 5k. We ran it together in 33:39.

The morning of the race I walked from my house to the start ~0.5 miles.
Event warmup:

Not much. Jumped up and down to stay a little warm.
Run
  • 1h 39m 38s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt really good. During the first 6 miles I paced with several different people. Chatted about the race, course, running in general, and then picked up the pace to the end.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe would have started with a higher pace or picked up the pace sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked through the snack/goodie line. BS'd with co-workers and my wife. Watched the kids play the games.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I did well. I wanted to try to maintain my goal pace at least until mile 6 to see how I was feeling. I stuck to my plan pretty well.

Event comments:

With the increase in runners they could have used more port-a-potties at the start.
