Pre-race routine:

arrived with lots of time setup transistion and covered eveything with large Garbage bags as it was pouring rain, covered bike seat and wrapped and taped bag over bars and controls. Learned that the swim was canceled and that the race would be a 5k/20K/ 2.5K Run/bike/ run duathlon event... a good call by the race director, we had 67mm of rain in 8 hrs and the wind was 30 to 50Kmph, waves in excess of 6 ft everything was virtually flooded and there was standing water and massive puddles everywhere.
Event warmup:

Tried to stay dry virtually Impossible, changed luckily I had taken my entire bag as well as my specifically packed TRi bag, so I added a LS comp
top under my tri shirt & MY Cwx Comp tights over my tri shorts, added a running vest but this was later discarded in T1
Run
  • 27m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Starting further back in the paddock would have been my preferance but given the conditions and the way things started it just wasn't possible good pace.
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have gone a bit harder, but was worried about doing to much to soon. rain eased up at start
Transition 1
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

I changed Socks & dropped the vest and the tri top as I was too hot. getting the protective bags off took some time
What would you do differently?:

Nothing considering the conditions at race start
Bike
  • 40m 52s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.25 mile/hr
Comments:

MY bike was awesome for me for the most part I was passing and not being passed , I probably passed in excess of 35 riders.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing maybe I was riding just a bit to comfortably, but I was concerned about the final run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

Changed socks again, worthless effort as there was a huge deep puddle that you had to run through at the start of the run out to begin the second run
What would you do differently?:

stayed wet
Run
  • 13m 32s
  • 1.6 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Did run walk right from the start, good run for off the bike
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

changed into dry clothes,,,, twice

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather conditions, and being conservative as this was my first even in more then a year

Event comments:

Considering the weather the event for my first one was great and well run

Performance: Good
Course: the course was soaked with lots of puddles to run through although mainly flat unfortunately I got slotted in the first2 rows on the paddock in the 20 to 59 mens AG start, nothing like watching people cruise by you for the first 2.5 Km, I did manage to stay well out of everyones way though
