Pre-race routine:

*Overall number is women only*
Fortunately I didn't have to get up much earlier than a normal work day since my carpool friend was coming at 7. My main goal was to prepare myself potty-wise, and I was successful. Yay! Had the usual PB bagel, coffee and banana.

Drove to St. Paul and encountered a ridiculous slow-down to exit by the race. We went up one exit, which ended up frankly being better, and made our way to the ramp. Easy peasy. We sat in the car until 7:50, when we thought we better go to leave time for the portapotties.
Event warmup:

We walked about .5 mile to the start and took care of things, including bag drop. Everything was really smooth, considering the number of people. We found a spot at the start and after a few minutes it was time to go. I didn't bother with a costume this year.

Comments:

The run is basically downhill for about 6 miles. There are occasional uphills, but barely enough to notice before a nice recovery. I was a little worried because I didn't feel as peppy as usual at race start, especially for this course.

After the course sort of flattens, it was a bit harder. At one point I kept seeing 10:45-11 min pace on my Garmin, which must have been a technical thing with the "current pace", but it messed with me. I felt like I was running hard, why wasn't it saying the right thing? Ugh. I walked a bit here in frustration. When I started back, the pace corrected (showing sub-9 for a while) so who knows why it struggled. It was a crisp clear day, I can't imagine there being satellite issues.

I generally felt crummy and like it wasn't "my race" for the last half. I hadn't put in many long runs, so I sort of expected this. My mile splits for miles 8 and 9 were both over 10:00, there goes my PR. I am quite surprised by my overall pace, actually. I was never so glad to see the split from the half marathoners and managed to maintain a good pace for the finish. Now I really know what it feels like to go into a race under-trained (for me) and I definitely don't want to repeat that.
What would you do differently?:

Put in the miles in my training plan. I too easily talk myself out of long runs!
Post race
Warm down:

It got cold FAST! I grabbed my food and got on the shuttle to the finish. It was really cold after sitting in wet clothes and cooling off, so I did a full wardrobe change in the portapotty. Bonus they were sitting in the sun and warm (in a good way). I could have stayed in there longer if not for the line of people waiting. I bet you don't hear that about a portapotty very often.

Event comments:

The only bummers were after the race. The line was beer was WAAAAY long. I gave up my advantage getting there early from only doing the 10 mile and waited for my friend, dumb. Then the line to exit the parking ramp was really slow. I still don't know why, but it was slow enough our paid parking tickets had expired, we were in line so long. Why do I keep signing up for these mega-big races? :)
