Swim
Comments: There was one large wave of all male sprint & male team racers - much bumping. The water was somewhat cold. The combination of cold and being bumped made me lose focus on breathing, had to breast stroke and back stroke for a while before turning at first bouy. After the field spread out I returned to normal freestyle w/o any more problems other than foggy goggles. Even used anti-fog which was no help. What would you do differently?: Maybe a wet suit to help w/ chilly water. Buy a better anti-fog product. Nothing really to be done regarding the mob swim. Transition 1
Comments: A long way from the water to transition ... up hill ... up steps. I can only jog slow in barefeet due to ankle issue and no ankle support. So it is what it is. Took a while to get off enough sand to wear shoes comfortably. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Flat course most of the way with more wind resistance coming back in. For being relatively new with biking I was pleased with my pace and with shifting. What would you do differently?: Keep riding and training to improve bike pace. Transition 2
Comments: Only had to remove helmet and shades after racking bike - already in running shoes. Took a little extra time to take several good swigs from water bottle. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Nice and easy going out while getting rid of the bike legs, going down steps, and going up small hill. Picked up the pace after that and passed a few and was passed by a few. At about 2/3 of the way through my knee (meniscus tear) started to throb so I slowed it down for about 30 seconds and was able to resume faster pace. No more pain toward the finish so I pushed up the "heartbreak hill" pretty well. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Walked around with a little stretch here and there. After mostly recovered I cashed in my race bib coupon for a free beer. Nothing like a cold one at 9:00am. What limited your ability to perform faster: Orthopedic Issues Event comments: Noticed a few times where volunteers were not paying attention and missed directing racers. Happened to me once and saw it happen to others. Otherwise they had enough volunteer help and overall did a good job. After race activities were fun - good social group of racers. Plenty of snacks on hand. The hoodie and the beer glass were nice gifts for racing. Last updated: 2012-09-11 12:00 AM
