Swim
Comments: The swim was only 350 yards. I usually don't like pool swims due to the congestion. But this wasn't too bad. Everyone seemed to seed themselves accordingly. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Just be a better swimmer. Transition 1
Comments: Something must have happened when I got out of the pool. I ran outside to T1 and all of a sudden my right calf was hurting. Crap, what the he!! did I just do?!!! I was cold and my muscles were sooo tight. I thought the swim would have loosened my legs up a bit, but I was still so stiff!! Bike
Comments: The course was pretty flat. It was pretty windy, but overall not too bad. My right calf was hurting, but I just kept moving. What would you do differently?: Not hurt my calf. Transition 2
Comments: Boy I really took my time here. I really need to work on this. What the heck am I doing? What would you do differently?: LOL. Run
Comments: Well, I was a little worried how this was going to pan out. As soon as I started to run, the pain in my calf was pretty bad. I stopped for a moment to stretch and think about continuing on. It was just a sprint, but I am so stubborn and a little stupid. I decided to continue on. I changed my run gait to short quick strides. It seemed to help...a wee little bit. The whole time I kept thinking, what the he!! am I doing to myself. I just gutted the 3.1 miles and made to the finish. I knew once I stopped, my calf was pretty messed up. Dumb. What would you do differently?: Well now that's a good question. I'm pi$$ed that this injury occurred. I'm pi$$ed that I could have had a really great run if my calf wasn't hurting. It was so hard to hold back. I wasn't out of breath at all during my run, I just limped along just to get to the finish. I'm pi$$ed that I probably made my injury worse by running on it in the first place. Post race
Warm down: I limped over to get my free beer. Astonishingly I got third in my age group. What limited your ability to perform faster: Dumb calf injury. Event comments: Overall this was a great race venue. The course is great for first timers and seasoned athletes. The volunteers were great and the police were just awesome directing the traffic. I want to do this again next year. Last updated: 2012-09-12 12:00 AM

This race was 4:00pm in the afternoon. I never participated in an afternoon race before, so the pre-race routine was casual. Had breakfast, laundry, lunch, errands, and than made my way to the race sight.
I swam about 150 yards for a warm up. The weather was very windy and the temps were getting a bit chilly...for me. I started to shiver and my muscles were really tense and tight. I was looking forward to getting this race started but it was delayed due to some traffic issue.
