Age Group Rank = 11/
Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 5AM and ate my normal breakfast. I have waffles, yogurt with granola, a banana and two ensures.
Event warmup:

I dunked in the water a bit and made sure I was ready before the horn.
Swim
  • 36m 51s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my longest swim in a race and I took it easy and made sure my strokes were efficient and my breathing was consistent. The swim was nice because it was just and out and back. I caught some of the waves before me and that gave me some confidence. Taking it easy and feeling good are what I make sure I do in the water.
What would you do differently?:

I might sight a little bit more to cut down on a few seconds.
Transition 1
  • 04m 11s
Comments:

My hands and feet were a little cold so it took a bit to get my socks and calf sleeves on.
Bike
  • 2h 59m
  • 56 miles
  • 18.77 mile/hr
Comments:

I ate as much as I could and drank a lot. It was a hilly course so I tried to each on the climbs. I was surprised to pass a lot of people on the way up. Some would pass on my descents but I always caught them on the way up, that felt good.
What would you do differently?:

I want to make sure my bike is in pristine condition before I race. I had the gears aligned pre-race day but that still wasn't enough. My chain fell off three times, that is unacceptable! It was good practice though. I stayed calm and didn't let it ruin my race.
Transition 2
  • 02m 20s
What would you do differently?:

Felt great off the bike and glad I didn't have to be on it anymore. I took a long pit stop in the porta-john and was off.
Run
  • 1h 55m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

It was so darn hot. No ice. Long run. I thought I was cruising because my HR was so high the whole time. Turns out I only ran at 8:48 min miles. Not my best, but I'm glad I didn't cramp up or have to walk.
What would you do differently?:

Take the bike a bit easier and be able to crush the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat around fro 10-15 minutes. Walked to the car, laid down and drank a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike chain and the heat. Being sick two weeks before hurt my training and preparation. Glad I wasn't sick on race day though.

Event comments:

I enjoyed the race and glad I made it through my first 70.3 On to Florida in November to complete my first IM!

170 the whole time. It must have been due to the heat!
Course: The course distance was apparently incorrect and some people ran farther than 13.1. It was hot and there was no ice on the course. It made for a long run.
