Swim
Comments: 4th women overall for swim (fastest was less than 1 minute faster); 3 minutes faster than anyone else in my age group; but still plenty of room for improvement What would you do differently?: Faster!!! Transition 1
Comments: Walked up the steep hill from the swim which was where most of the time went. Put on socks, shoes jacket, camel bak, gloves, helmet. Was quite cold the first 30k of bike so well worth the time for the extra gear. Wetsuit was off in seconds. What would you do differently?: Try to run up the hill Bike
Comments: This was a very hard course for someone who seriously sucks at climbing hills. I didn't feel great at the start of the bike which is pretty normal for me; but with lots of hills from the very beginning out of transition, I didn't have time to spin my legs until my lungs felt ok. What would you do differently?: I wish I could climb better but aside from pushing harder which would have killed me for the run, I don't know what else I could have done Transition 2
Comments: Took my time to take off all the extra gear I put on to keep warm including the sleeves which I had worn under the wetsuit. Then put on and tied my running shoes. What would you do differently?: Nothing; I could go faster on a waker day if I needed less gear for the bike Run
Comments: This was a hard run with very steep uphills in the first mile, making it hard to get the legs into it. I had to walk up some parts of the steepest uphills, including the fire road (an awesome dirt/rock/gravel road) but I caned it down the fire road when most people were picking their way down. The first part of the run I was trying to maintain a 10 min/mile pace because it was feeling so hard; I think I did a little faster from the top of the fire road to the end, but I lost too much time in the first half to get under an hour. What would you do differently?: Start off faster and not worry so much about saving energy for the end; I always have the mental strength to finish hard no matter how tired I am. Post race
Warm down: Got water, got lunch, got ice cream... walked around near the finish a bit, but no real warm down What limited your ability to perform faster: Had a really hard time breathing (despite remembering to use my inhaler and using it again on the bike) right from the start of the swim. I feel like the virus I had at the start of the week wasn't gone either. And this was a very hilly bike/run and I'm really awful at hills. Event comments: The volunteers and organizers were brilliant; the other women out on the course were very supportive and encouraging; the location is gorgeous; the lake is clean (except for the weeds but they don't count at pollution). It was a very pleasant experience, and I met a lot a really nice people. Last updated: 2012-09-16 12:00 AM

Got up at 6, got dressed and made bagel w/pbj; then unfortunately drove 40 minutes from dodgy hotel to Deep Creek Lake; set up transition and wandered down to the MMTC tent and hung out. Put o wetsuit, went to race briefing and then down to the start area
