Pre-race routine:

Got up at 2 am, ate a bagel and then drove 1.5 h from the Chicago suburbs up to Lake Geneva.
Event warmup:

none, more the opposite: race was delayed by 40 min because of the fog over the lake. It was freezing - even with a wetsuit on.
Swim
  • 36m 39s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

Finally we're let into the water and that felt with 71F quite warm if you come from the cold. The swim went fine. Another girl in my wave hit my wrist with her leg and managed to press the lap button on my Garmin - so it switched right away into T1. oh well... The swim includes a run along the shore into T1.

Swim went well, quite some see weed to fight off, but it is a nice swim with plenty of space around you.
What would you do differently?:

none

Bike

  • 28 miles
  • 19.81 mile/hr
Comments:

oh boy - this was a hilly one. The biggest of them all was right at the beginning - it was tough and the hills just kept coming. The course was beautiful and very technical: many tight turns, where it would have helped a lot to know the course. I was not sure how to take the turns - and of course lost time, but better safe than sorry. I didn't want to risk a crash. The surface varied a lot - there were downhill turns with potholes and uneven surface. Others were shared with cars. The course got a bit busier in the second loop as the sprint/super-spring bikers merged in. Great ride though!
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

I had a hard time to find my spot and lost a few seconds here.
What would you do differently?:

Memorize some landmarks to find my spot.
Run
  • 48m 49s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

More hills! This was by far the toughest 10K - steep hills and plenty of them, yet beautiful course. My legs were done after this run!
What would you do differently?:

more hill training
Post race
Warm down:

after downing 2 cold water bottles, driving back home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of hills to train on in Chicagoland!

Event comments:

The race was well organized and fun, the hills were challenging in a good way - I would do it again.
