Age Group = M 20-24
Age Group Rank = 9/9
Pre-race routine:

Packed night before except clothes.
Event warmup:

Woke up late.
Got to the race pretty late. Didnt warm up at all.
Swim
  • 14m 2s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out far off the short line and stayed at the back. So did 10 other ppl. Got kicked in the throat between 50-75 yards. Had to stop and hold onto a kayak. Lost focus, water was murky and scary. Had to hold on one more time around 100 yards before I finished it. Swam a little off course near the end, corrected and got the hell outta the water.
What would you do differently?:

Wait even longer at the start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Tried the shoes on the pedals but didnt work. Didnt have elastics so they were dragging, had to stop and put them on. Bad idea, will try elastics maybe sometime. Feet were bet, hard to get into shoe.
What would you do differently?:

Body Glide ankles, talcum powder shoes, get elastic bands or put on before.
Bike
  • 51m 52s
  • 15.2 miles
  • 17.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Took a few corners too wide. No hills which was good. Parts of the road were nicely paved, others were rougher paved and gave some friendly vibrations.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. 15 miles is actually really short.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

I actually unclipped and tiptoed with my shoes on thru the transition! Bad idea, lost a lot of time.
What would you do differently?:

Try the shoe thing.
Run
  • 23m 38s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. First time running with a Fuel Belt, dont like the bouncing so ended up holding 2 bottles in my hands. Sprinted the end, left too much in the tank!
What would you do differently?:

Maybe go without the Fuel Belt for such a short run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked over to the food tent. Ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Freaked myself out in the swim. Thought the bike and run would be longer so I paced myself too slow. Gotta push it next time.

Event comments:

Glad to have made this my first real race ever.
