Swim
Comments: Oh my, deep water start and first ows. It wasn't pretty. From the moment jumping in the water I was having trouble catching my breath. I was worried about being slow and getting ran over, so I spent too much time trying to get to the outside and stay out of people's way. This costed me a lot of time and energy. I learned a lot about ows though. Turned out after a small adjustment to my swim stroke I could breath better swim freestyle than I was able to doing side stroke or back stroke. I think it was just getting into a rhythm and calming down. I did not feel any muscle fatigue from the swim at all, it was about my breathing. What would you do differently?: More ows experience, and just get in there and swim. Not going to worry about people behind me or staying to the outside. I need to learn to tread water, like before the start, better to use less energy and relax more. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went well. I used a mtb so I did not have bike shoes, I just put on running shoes. I do have an ankle brace that I always run in, so I put it on in T1. It was a little long, but Thanks to all helpful advice on BeginnerTriathlon.com I was able to get everything organized and went through it quickly. What would you do differently?: I am pleased with T1 at this point. I think in the future I will have tri shorts, and click on shoes on the bike, it will go quicker, but where I am at now, I was happy with it. Bike
Comments: I used a mtb for this ride. This is not a good road bike. Within the first 3 minutes of the ride, the chain popped off. This happened to me 3 other times throughout the ride. I kept a slow pace and was hesitant shifting gears so it would not come off again. I felt I could have done much better if I was not worrying about that darn chain. What would you do differently?: Buy a road bike. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went really quick. I rode in my running shoes, so all I had to do here was rack the bike, helmet and sunglasses off, running hat on, then out. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Run went well. I had to stop to use the rest room on the way out, which added a couple of seconds to the time. Since this was my first I ran kind of slow to make sure I was able to finish, I did not speed up until the last mile. What would you do differently?: The run was kind of short for me, I easily could have ran at a faster pace and been fine. Post race
Warm down: Smiling and trying to hunt down kids. What limited your ability to perform faster: My bike and inexperience in the water and running. Event comments: I thought it would have been nice to have an aid station on the bike course. Last updated: 2012-09-20 12:00 AM

Did not get into bed until 10:30 night before. Woke up at 3:30, ate my usual breakfast, 4 egg white omelet, 2 piece wheat toast w/ pb, 1 banana, oj, and protein shake. Moved kids to car, went through race bag one last time left house by 4:30.
Just stretching.
