![]() Swim
Comments: Crazy rough start. Started in good position, but it was a washing machine for longer than usual. Hard to find open water or a set of legs to draft on. After I found a place, I swam well. Was feeling smooth after the first 200-400 with mostly breathing every stroke on the right. Top started chaffing both at neck and on my back. Wonder if my stroke is causing that??? Should have swum in a little closer at the end rather than walking in. What would you do differently?: Not much.... ![]() Transition 1
Comments: This transition is HUGE. I never sprint into transition, and that affects the time. I was pretty smooth with the bike grab. I had forgotten to lock down my aero bottle, so that made the transition a little slow, and I also had to adjust my timing strap. What would you do differently?: Properly set up my bike and test everything before starting...stupid mistake. ![]() Bike
Comments: My bike computer didn't work AT ALL. I didn't dry the contacts enough or test the wireless in transition at the start of the day. I fiddled with it a bit then figured I could ride off of perceived exertion. This was one of my fastest races EVER. Bike course did get a little crowded during second loop, and the turns onto the overpass were a mess. I passed 3 wide sometimes skirting the edge of the road. One group came by and would clog up the road in front and then seemed to slow down. I had to gun it to pass them 2 or 3 times as they would pass me on any hills. Saw a guy almost crash getting out of his shoes before the finish. Another guy did a PERFECT running dismount. I should learn that! What would you do differently?: Test my computer pre-race. Need to get a fit to fix my seat and left foot issues. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Did good here. Easy run in, socks on OK, put race belt, glasses and hat on while running. What would you do differently?: Not much ![]() Run
Comments: FINALLY!!! This was my third try at this race and I finally managed a half decent run!!! Probably due to the limited sun/heat. I felt good, but not great while running. Had some rough spots. I didn't run/walk, but did run/slow run every minute, and that seemed to help some. Saw Nick V. on run and tried to catch up, but he was too far ahead. What would you do differently?: Train more. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Get the bullhorn and go cheer on everyone else. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training??? Possible the HUGE sandwich I ate the day before. Event comments: This is one of my favorite races. Big race, good support, lots of competition, and decent spectators at the finish. Last updated: 2012-09-24 12:00 AM

Woke up at local hotel. So nice to be close to race. Early pop-tarts, then a yogurt and then an apple after transition while out on the island.
Not too nervous, but a little worried about the run.
None really. Swimming from the Ferry to the island and sitting around.
