Comments:

Lined up about 50 yds back in the huge crowd (1200+). Went out fast, ~22 mph. There were so many cyclists it was easy to find someone going the right pace. At the first climb the crowd really stretched out. I motored up, watching my heart rate hover at the top of zone 3. The event included chip timing on the two toughest climbs. The 7 mile climb to Hogpen Gap is hard to adequately describe. Several long, brutally steep sections. It was like climbing stairs. Throughout the day each climb was followed by a thrilling, scary high speed descent. I hooked up with 5 solid riders at the bottom of the last descent for the 12 miles of rollers to run in to the finish. A great day.
