Run
Comments: The run was great, I felt really good and focused. I met up with another guy, David, who was wearing my jersey! (sweet!), We ran together most of the way. I would have to say this leg was my most conservative leg of the course. I didn't want to push too much, so I could have done better. The most impressive part is that even with all the whining and lack of training I have done in the last few weeks, I was still able to maintain a fair pace, and if I did push (i.e. a 5K run), I think I am still on track to beat my PR by the FunRun What would you do differently?: Compared to everyone in my division my run was slower than my overall place by 2 minutes. Wow! If I would have gained those 2 and a half minutes, I would have moved up 1 spot in my division, and 12 spots over all in the race. Transition 1
Comments: Well... not my best performance. I had some troubles getting my shoes on and getting them strapped in. And I am not very coordinated with getting everything on quickly What would you do differently?: Definately something I am working on this winter. The leaders beat me out of the transition by over a minute. From now on, no getting shoes on, have the straped into the bike. It'll take a lot of practice, but I'll get it down. I can't afford a minute and a half transition loss across the entire race. Bike
Comments: Good ride. The only problem that I ran into was that I clearly ran out of energy about 20 miles into the bike. I had a Hammer Gel, but that didnt do enough. Didn't have a lot of umph to get up the hills, and even the flats were a struggle What would you do differently?: I need to eat a lot more carbs before the race, realy work on the loading priciple. Accroding to my HRM, I burned 2000 calories alone on the bike, and I bet I haven't eaten that much in the last 2 days (in excessive of my basalic rate) Transition 2
Comments: Okay transition, again not my best. forgot my helmet, so I had to go back to drop that off. racking my bike was fine, shoes were fine. My calves were hurting BAD, so I wasn't able to really run very well. What would you do differently?: Not much. just get faster! Run
Comments: Ouch! My legs were cramping like crazy. I am not sure if I should even worry about how my R2 times go in these events, cause I am a dedicated Triathlete now. I was only 3 minutes off of our age group winner, but still. No knee problems! What would you do differently?: Just need to get faster at these. Typically I should have a months worth of time in training, so I need to practice live duathlons more during September. As a note: If I would have came in relative to my age group ranking, it would have been about a minute and a half off my time. it cost me 1 spot in my age group, and 9 spots overall. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Consistent Training Event comments: Overall I had a good time. I have no complaints with my performance. Last updated: 2006-06-04 12:00 AM

Breakfast at 6:30 - bagel, yogurt, and a glass of milk
I tried the EAS Catapult Sample I got in my goody bag. Didn't taste good cause. I didn't mix it properly, but I think it helped. One GU pack 15 minutes before the start.
I stretched my ITB quite a bit before the race, not much as far as "warming" up. It was REALLY COLD in the beginning, so I didn't strip down to my race suit until about 10 minutes before the start.
