Overall Rank = 29/40
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/8
Pre-race routine:

soak in the beauty of Bartlett lake, mentally walk through my transitions, easy digestible nutrition, and fluids

Event warmup:

try to get out in the water to settle the nerves. relax, relax, relax. remind myself over and over to exhale underwater on the swim.
Swim
  • 11m 22s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

water was warm. didn't wear a wetsuit this year to save time in transition. there is a 150 yd. run uphill in coarse sand to the timing mat (included inn the swim time) did it barefoot this time. last year i wasted time looking for my sandles.was able to draft a little this year and with the exception to some sighting strokes,i was able to freestyle the whole swim.
What would you do differently?:

work on technique base conditioning to keep up in the draft.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

i believe this transition is included in the bike time. was very winded from the uphill run and 2 flights of stairs to the transition.
What would you do differently?:

better run indurance
Bike
  • 1h 09m 12s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 11.10 mile/hr
Comments:

knew what to expect from doing the race the previous year. relentless uphill climb. train on hills or your in for an agonizing day.
What would you do differently?:

leg strength for the hills and better conditioning. same time as last year with very little training this year so i can't be upset.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

all in all went pretty smooth
What would you do differently?:

practice getting out of my shoes and running right off the bike. didn't want to try this move for the first time in the race only to end up on youtube eating crap.
Run
  • 25m 43s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 11m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

have been plagued with plantar this last year needless to say my run suffered severely.just tried to take in the great views. what a beautiful venue
What would you do differently?:

run train, hill repeats
Post race
Warm down:

could not leave until the last bike is in from the olympic distance. plenty of time to eat the provided snacks and socialize

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my legs:)

Event comments:

don't go in looking for a new p.r. this race is extremely challenging and thats while i'll be back again next year.great staff and volunteers. as a side note reeled a girl in at mile 4, passed and left her turned around screamed back to the transition only to see her dismounting in front of me. i compete to challenge myself and normally can care less but to hear her brag
post race to others about placing in her age group. actually the girl behind you that did the actual distance should have your place.
