Swim
Comments: Start was slow with very careful, slow dolphin dives to avoid cutting my feet. Pacing was excellent. Navigation was horrendous. Could not see first 3 buoys due to darkness and then chop/waves. Then almost missed 4th buoy. Went WAY off course several times. 14/47 F What would you do differently?: I need to practice navigating!!! Transition 1
Comments: All T1 were relatively long. Bike
Comments: Pacing was good. A lot of leg pain from the start, probably related to improper stretching and preparation in the days prior to race. 34/47 F What would you do differently?: Better pre-race physical preparation. Transition 2
Comments: Racked quickly but unexpectedly straight through rack, not going around and backing in. Not prepared and had to go around rack to get run stuff. All T2's were relatively long. What would you do differently?: Set up to get run stuff from either side of rack. Run
Comments: First 10K and very hard. Had to walk about 1/2 - 1 mile of it but was able to strategize to pass AG competitor at end. Better than I expected (but still not very good). 40/47 F. What would you do differently?: Need to improve running strength and stamina. Post race
Warm down: Walked, drank and poured ice water over my head. What limited your ability to perform faster: Improper physical preparation in the days before resulted in significant muscle pain and soreness from the start. Swim navigation has really deteriorated for some reason aside from just the conditions. Event comments: Post race activities were probably OK for anyone who was done in under 3 hours but mostly packed (including awards for those of us in slower divisions) up by the time this slow, old woman was done. Still a really nice venue and a good race, except the swim entry area is very scary!!! It was better when we entered off the pier for a deep water start. Survived my first Oly!
