Run
Comments: This was my first half marathon so I was fairly pleased with the result. I have done a lot of races in my time, but mostly shorter stuff 5Ks, Sprint Tris, etc. I was pretty happy with my pacing, probably went out a little faster than I wanted to, but was able to maintain that pace throughout, and even go a little faster over the last 5K. Breaking the race down into four 5Ks, each was with 15 seconds of each other in the 24:00 minute range. Overall, couldn't be happier with the result ... just all kind of sore this morning. What would you do differently?: Now that I know what a race of this distance feels like, I think I could have went out a little faster. I didn't decide to do this race until late Sept., and had to ramp my mileage up from 8-10 mpw to 20 mpw over the couple of months before the race. I would probably have liked to put in more mileage prior to the race, but didn't really have the time without risking injury by ramping up too quickly. Post race
Warm down: Hobbled around for bit, got a few bananas and water What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably lack of mileage prior to the race. Not knowing how I would respond at this distance. My long runs prior to the race were only about 10 miles. Event comments: Great race. Between the 5K an Half, they had about 3,000 runners. This is one of the largest races in the area. Last updated: 2012-10-22 12:00 AM

Up very early ... didn't sleep well. Had some oatmeal at 4AM and a small cup of coffee. Left for the race about 7AM.
Ran about 3/4 of a mile easy. Tried to stay warm .. it was still pretty chilly (30s).
