Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6:00am had brekfeast 2 eggs, raisin bread, yogourt, and a banana. Also had a supplement drink. Got my gear together, Nancy and the boys came with me. Left at 7:30am. After that everything was a nightmare. Half way there I noticed I did not have my wallet. Wasn't sure if I lost it or left it somewhere. Got to the park, tried to pump up my tires, the pump got stuck on the back valve and ripped the seal. I then had to walk to the transition area to change it and Kevin helped me. I had to calm my nerves down. Before the race I had a power gel and a banana, did not drink alot, worried about my tire and forgot to drink.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warm up a few stretchs and a light swim.
Swim
  • 15m 5s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had a hard time breaking out of the group at the beginning, I was kicked and hit in the head a few times and I could not get my breathing under control. Had some cramps in the beginning, probably just from my unsteady breathing and trying to get on course. After the first turn everything started to come together and I got into a zone but the damage was done. I managed to pass a few people but only at the last few hundred metres did I start to push myself. I probably could have pushed harder earlier on. My time did improve from last year but I feel I could have done better.
What would you do differently?:

Stay off to the sides to avoid the crush of people in the beginning. Swim harder from the start.
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

Overall I was happy with my transition, maybe could have been a bit faster but still it was okay.
What would you do differently?:

Next time try keeping my shoes on the bike and possibly try without socks.
Bike
  • 59m 28s
  • 30 kms
  • 30.27 km/hr
Comments:

I felt I did pretty well going up the hill. I sat most of the way up, when I got to the halfway point of the hill, I stood up for a few seconds and sat right back down and repeated that a few times. When I got to the top I felt pretty good. The rest of the ride was good. Overall I was happy with it. My time was better than last year by 2 minutes but I still was passed by a lot of people on the up-hills. I wasn't able to monitor my speed or time on the bike computer because it was not working after change my earlier flat tire.
What would you do differently?:

Put in more training time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Transition was good, I had a quick time.
Run
  • 41m 3s
  • 7.5 kms
  • 05m 28s  min/km
Comments:

Overall not a bad run, but it would have been nice to be a little bit faster with my time. I still had to walk a few times especially on the two big hills. Did not stop at the aid stations for any drinks. The return half of the run I felt my legs were getting a bit stronger and I was getting into a rhythm and my breathing was getting under control. I had a little bit of fatigue. My time from last year improved considerably. I was able to shave off 6 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

More brick workouts to prepare my legs for transition from bike to run.
Post race
Warm down:

Really didn't do anything, after the race went to look for Nancy and the kids. Went and had a bite to eat and then we went home.

Event comments:

Happy with my day. Did not start out to good. If I was faster by a few min's overall it would have been nice.

Course: Also a tough run course, quite a few steeps hills to tackle. Right off the bat coming out of the transition there is a steep hill to climb and it was wet and muddy. When I got to Halton Hills there was another steep hill. The return run is faster as it is downhill.
