Pre-race routine:

Drive to Lowell.
Event warmup:

Short warmup run before the race after I set up the transition area.
Run
  • 21m 30s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Kept the pace calm not to get sucked in and start off faster than planned. Felt pretty good throughout the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Took an extra few seconds to take off glasses as it started to rain and I knew that visibility would be poor. Also took a drink of water before heading out
What would you do differently?:

Skip the sunglasses before the start..
Bike
  • 42m 55s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 20.27 mile/hr
Comments:

The wind was in the forecast, but wasn't supposed to be strong until the afternoon. Went with my normal race setup of a disc and a 90mm front. In hindsight, that was probably not a good choice... too many open areas caused me to get blown around quite a bit. Had to sit up to keep control of the bike. I also crashed on a rainy ride 2 weeks ago, so that made me tense and very cautious in all turns/corners. The road surface was pretty poor at times as well.
What would you do differently?:

Skip the disc and use a slightly shallower front
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Managed to knock the bike rack over... Still have no idea how that happened, but I'm really glad I was the only one there so my bike was the only one that tipped over. No damage to anything though...
What would you do differently?:

Lots of things... not knock the rack over to start with! :-) I just didn't have a smooth T2, probably because I felt tense from the bike
Run
  • 22m 30s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt pretty heavy after the bike, but as usual that only meant the first mile was quite fast for me... (6:21)
What would you do differently?:

Keep an eye on the pace and slow down the first mile. I always run fast after getting off the bike, but I also suffer towards the end because of it. My lack of training lately really showed in the finishing mile...
Post race
Warm down:

Cup of chicken soup and a bottle of water... :-)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I simply need to train... Had a lot of other things going on the last months and that limited my training time/motivation.

Event comments:

It's a quite nice race with lots of volunteers and good organization.
