Run
Comments: Plantar Fasciitis started up in my right heel about mile 1.5 and moved into my calf by mile 2. Betsy was hanging back with me for the first 2 miles, I sent her ahead because I knew my heel was only getting worse. The bridges weren't nearly as bad as I thought they would be. Breathing wasn't a problem for me at all, just a constant pain in my right foot. The turn around was a welcome sight. I was trying to look for everyone coming back in and heard Betsy yell out to me. Its not easy finding others in a race in the middle of the night. As I approached mile 4 I realized that I haven't seen anyone for about 5 minutes, I knew I wasn't last but it felt like I was the only one out there. Then I finally saw someone climbing the first bridge heading in. I decided to catch them. We passed eachother many times the last two miles. I got a second wind when I heard my time for 5 miles was under an hour(58:25) Right about the time Jessica was finishing. This is where some strange drunk lady came running into the street telling me I could make it. I wasn't sure what her intentions were when she ran out there but I wasn't sticking around to find out. Then I decided to save some strength for the end. I was expecting a last minute turn through the condos like in the mile run. But when I saw that wasn't the case I let it all out. The finish cute did its magic and made the pain in my heel go away for about 2 minutes. What would you do differently?: Get the inserts that Betsy mentioned to me during the race, and avoid scary drunk ladies. Post race
Warm down: Downed some water and talked with everyone. Betsy's friend Ashely (first race ever) took first in her AG and 3rd overall for the women. Jeff took 5th in his AG as well. I went and grabbed a banana and a protein bar, McDonalds was too close and inviting. What limited your ability to perform faster: PF is a pain in my.... foot. Event comments: "Rob is a nice guy. Warmup was a 1 mile run with lots of laughing. Then followed by more hydration with what was intended to be water but smelled like diesel. Walked a little and did a self evalution, I noticed my heel had a small tender spot. I did a little stretching and got my ass smacked. The perpetrator is still loose.
