Pre-race routine:

Freaky weather lately so took a bunch of clothing options. Was hailing at the start but cleared up shortly. Still a super cold wind chill. Wore tights, ultra shorts, tech short shirt and tech long overtop with my huge fleece mitts and touque/neck cover.

Event warmup:

Changed shoes from Kinvara (no ice traction) to my light 50$ Etonic trainers.

Still nursing a mildly injured ham - slight limping until it gets warmed up so did 1k or so just before start.

Comments:

Left ham has been bugging me since last weeks 32. The mid-week 23 went ok after it warmed up so I did the same this time. Calves are on fire since I started the new dance classes. First race that the legs/muscles were the restrictor instead of HR/cardio.

Race was pretty uneventful - fought with a female marathoner who kept right with me until the first bridge, then I was pretty much alone for the rest of the race. Nice to see everyone as you come back though.

Post race
Warm down:

Nice huge breakfast buffet - they do that and a nice gear bag instead of awards/draw prizes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Middle of high volume mesocycle with no taper at all. Went as expected.

Event comments:

Good breakfast after the race, and one of the better medals. No awards/prizing keeps the elites away unfortunately.

Course: Out and back, pretty flat except under the bridges. My Garmin said it was short 300-400m which would add another 1:30 or so to the time. Which makes sense.
