Pre-race routine:

Up at 5. Really had no trouble getting out of bed which is very weird for me. Had all my clothes laid out so dressed and on the road by 5:40. Traffic was backed up pretty far on 30 but Steve knows the city really well and took an earlier exit which took us right to Farrington field across the bridge we would later run on. Plenty of parking. In the car ate a banana and a sweet and salty granola bar.
Event warmup:

Walked from the car to the expo center. Found our friends Dawn, Scott, Andy, Carol and Shannon. Dawn and I would run together. Waited in line for the real bathroom. The line as usual was long and slow. This got us to the start later than I wanted and ended up in coral 5 at the very back of the pack. The only goal I had for today was to PR. I was really hoping that I would not have to fight through too much traffic to pass people. Since they spaced the starts out by corral, it was not too bad. Ran with mt friend Dawn.

Comments:

My previous PR was 2:27. My goal was 2:24. Super secret goal was 2:22. CRUSHED IT!! Wow, this was a great day for me. I have been getting faster. I attribute it to weight loss and weight training. A 2:24 would mean keeping an 11mm pace. I was so afraid that I would be right there on the cusp and have to dig so deep at the end to get there.

Once we got to the start, we did have to bob and weave through a lot of people, but usually found a space to squeeze through. After the first mile, we had a 10:35 average. I was hoping I did not go out too fast. Ditched the ear warmers at about mile 1. The gloves and jacket at mile 2. Had capri tights and a ls teach and was comfortable the entire rest of the day.

Each time the Garmin beeped off another mile, I checked the average. Always in the 10:30's. Wow. It was almost effortless. Slowed down at the aid stations to refill my Amphipod with half water and half Powerade. GU at 1 hour and 1:50. The only time our average pace crept to 10:40 was up the hill at mile 9.

By mile 11, I knew we had a PR. Just kept on going. Nothing hurt. It was almost surreal. I do admit the last 1/2 mile was the toughest. Crossed the line and stopped my watch. It said 2:20:01. I thought I could not be happier...except when I got the race text that said my official finish time was 2:19:58. OMG! You could not wipe the smile off of my face!
What would you do differently?:

NOTHING!
Post race
Warm down:

It was a bit of a mob scene to get into the room to get food. Waited in line outside about 15 minutes before we made it in. Picked up a few things but all I ate was a banana. Into the next room to get shirts, my challenge medal and wait for the rest of the crew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I PR'd by 8 minutes. Not sure there was anything that limited me.

Event comments:

As always, Cowtown is my favorite race all year. Now it will be extra special. Finished my 5-year star. Now on the 3 year spurs.
