Swim
Comments: Out was better than back, on return I continued to swim to the left and had to correct. Water was very clear, didnt have to spot forward much, as I could follow the string of bouys on my breathing side. Caught several in heat before me walking in while water was neck deep, crazy fools. Overall for my first open water swim I was very happy. What would you do differently?: Stay tighter to the bouys on the return swim, since field had thinned out. Swim training was weak prior to this race, never swam more than 500 at one time and only swam 10 times all year prior to event. Need to start training at 1500 yards or so such that a 500 aint no thing. Also need to work on keeping the hips up. Got lucky with the rain over night cooling off the water, without the wetsuit I would have added 3 min. Transition 1
Comments: pretty slow getting wetsuit off the lower legs. Always tough to get off the calves and feet. Also need to where a top during the swim next time so I dont have to take time putting that on. As this was my first time I was kinda flustered in T1 and took my time. Could shave a minute off next time. What would you do differently?: Just hustle more. Practice the run while removing the wetsuit and buy a top I can fit under the suit. Bike
Comments: As my training focus is on the bike I had more expectation in this leg than in the others, but was also worried about overduing it. Had been riding 25k time trails prior to this event in 44 minutes but was unable to push my self here. What would you do differently?: Never am comfortable in the aero position, too much strain on the neck and upper spine, need to work on this. Spent too much time road racing on the road bike prior to this event and didnt have enough time in on the tri bike. Should have pushed myself more. Gotta average 21mph next time. Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition, most of the time is on the long run out of the transition with the biker legs still. What would you do differently?: unstrap the shoes and stretch the calves on the downhill stretch to the dismount area. Run
Comments: Exactly how I trained, no pain or stress the entire run. Unfortunately it cost me about 10 spots. What would you do differently?: By next pigman sprint I want to be sub 9 min miles. This would shave 6 - 8 minutes off the run and keep me about average with the other events. Post race
Warm down: Pizza and Beer (Beer from home, not provided) What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of focused training, and inexperience. Too much bike racing prior to the event made for pour time trial specific conditioning and a lack of miles in the aero position made it difficult to stay down the entire time. Much room for improvement in all stages of the event. This year I was 260 pounds / next year 210 pounds Goal for next Pigman: 8:00 Swim/ sub 3 T1 / 42 min bike / 1:20 T2 / 28 min run 1:23:?? total and a podium place in the Clydesdales. Event comments: Great event, well organized, fun course. My first Triathlon and I loved every second of it. Only negatives: Need beer with the pizza and need to close the course inside the park to cars. Cars make it too dangerous and causes slower times. Last updated: 2006-06-07 12:00 AM
