Swim
Comments: My first time at an Ironman. The mass start was very intimidating. What would you do differently?: Swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: I had to go #2 prior to the swim, but I just couldn't get the bear to come out of the cave. It caused me some discomfort during the swim. I had to go quite badly during transition. Hard to wipe with wet butt and wet hands. Lost a bit of time in the Porta-Potty. What would you do differently?: Not poop. Bike
Comments: Biking is my weakest discipline. I lost over 300 spots on the bike. I am from the prairies so I did very little hill training. The course was a real eye opener. What would you do differently?: More biking. Transition 2
Comments: I am happy with this transition. It was quite crowded in the change room so I did not have a chair to sit on to change. I also wear an ankle brace which takes a fair bit of time to put on. What would you do differently?: Not much. I was happy with this transition. Run
Comments: This was the first time I have ever ran 26.2 miles. I gained over 400 spots back from the bike. I like running. I had to poop twice so that slowed me down a bit. What would you do differently?: Not poop. Run faster. I wanted to go sub 4 hours. Post race
Warm down: None. Walked back to transition, picked up all my gear bags and my bike and walked back to my car. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was my first Ironman. I really didn't know what to expect. Now that I do, I know what is required and what I need to work on. I followed my nutrition and hydration plan perfectly and that was not the limiting factor. For what ever reason I had to poop 5 times during the race. It wasn't diarrhea, it was just had to poop. Event comments: If I had one complaint about this race it was the lack of post race food and drink. I was able to get one chocolate milk and a bottle of water. I could not find anything else. I know they want to get everyone out of the finish line quickly, but they should have had some food available somewhere. The volunteers were fantastic in all sections of the race. Got up at like 3:30am. Ate my breakfast, OJ and oatmeal. Drove to the parking garage and made my way to the start.
Treading water waiting for the pros to start.
