Swim
Comments: Visibility wasn't great but still better than the ocean. Sighting the buoys was easy. Also I was FOP on the swim and the gentleman in the yellow kayak who lead the swimmers made it even easier. First swim in a wetsuit and thankfully didn't have any issues there. Wadeish start. Mass start in waist deep water. No troubles with crowds. What would you do differently?: thought everything went as well as I could expect Transition 1
Comments: My transition area was a mess. I didn't really get to set up anything because I got there so late. Although I will say HITS lives up to there transition area hype. What would you do differently?: Get there early enough to set up my area. Bike
Comments: I thought the ride was nice. Hit the turn around in 5th which is unusual for me. Need some training on hills as I really had to fight up a few of them but it was nice to coast a little on the downhills. Headwind picked up with incoming storms on the way back to transition so that sucked. What would you do differently?: Be better prepared for hills. Wasn't expecting it that much. The coastal riding is spoiling Transition 2
Comments: Again my transition was sloppy. Racked my bike and laced up my shoes then was off. What would you do differently?: Have a transition set up Run
Comments: I had the course marked a little short (almost half a mile actually) on my watch. I must not have paid attention to the course because I wasn't expecting the whole run to be off road. Sand was pretty soft from the half and full the day before. What would you do differently?: Run went as well as I could have hoped Post race
Warm down: Walked over and changed while waiting on my dad to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of time to set up. Completely my fault. Event comments: The race was awesome for the price you pay. It didn't have all the bells and whistles but I only paid a fraction of the price to race it. I'd race it again but don't think I'd do the full distance with HITS. I saw a few finishers the night before and it seemed a little bare bones for that distance. Still they do a quality job putting on a race Last updated: 2012-12-02 12:00 AM

I had driven to the race site the night before to get my packet so I knew it was secluded but still somehow almost didn't make it before transition closed.
Does frantically running to transition in the dark from my car while carrying everything count?
