Run
Comments: Overall pretty happy with my results. Ran a 2:17, only 3 minutes from my PR. Was happy with my time considering all the hills and the stiff north wind that we ran into most of the run. Ran the course 7 mins faster than last year and felt like my run fitness was not at all what it was at the end of last year when I PR the Bloomington Half Marathon since I have been doing mostly swim and bike training over the winter. Also no cramps to contend with this year! What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Had a really rough time the last 2 miles of the race because it was mostly an uphill run into the north blowing wind and I was mostly spent. Think I made some great decisions by running all the downhill sections hard and walking some of the uphill sections to save my legs. Post race
Warm down: Went to find my family who surprised me by showing up to watch the second half of the race. There support at mile 9 really carried me through! What limited your ability to perform faster: Without a doubt the hilly terrain of Grandview Drive. Very hilly and challenging course and also the wind which we faced when we were running uphill. Miles 11 and 12 were really tough! Event comments: 2nd year running this race and was able to improve my time from last year by 7 minutes. Very happy with that effort. Missed a PR by 3 mins. Considering the difficulty of the course and the windy conditions I am very optimistic that I will PR in 2 weeks at Champaign! Champaign course is flat and fast. Really felt like I would have PR today had I not had to walk so much of the hills on the last 2 miles of this course. Looking to finish Champaign course possibly somewhere between 2 and 2:10! Up early for breakfast. Cup of coffee, one cup of oatmeal and some water.
No warm up. Stood close to Running Central trying to stay out of the wind and stay warm. Windy and only 36 degrees at start of race equals freezing cold.
