Swim
  • 12m 31s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out at a fairly hard pace and tried to hold it throughout. Started to get into a rythm on the way back and then it was over. Tried to find some feet but couldn't catch the 4 or 5 guys that were about 30 feet in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...I used to sprint out of the gates but stopped doing it this year and it really has helped me stay strong and controlled then getting gased right from the gun
Transition 1
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

2nd fastest in AG. Satisfied with that.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 45m 19s
  • 17 miles
  • 22.30 mile/hr
Comments:

As I started the bike I was trying to push the pace. After having a decent swim and being the second wave off after the elites I felt like I was alone out there. Tried to keep the head down and eventually caught a couple of riders. By the time I hit the business park I could tell I was having trouble pushing the pace because of lack of people. Finally a couple of folks passed me and helped get me back on track back to T2
What would you do differently?:

My bike computer wasn't working and went by feel. Ended up 35 seconds slower than last year and I thought I am in better bike shape now. I think not having anyone out there to really push me hurt my performance.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

4 in AG so happy with this one as well
What would you do differently?:

Lost a couple of seconds getting one shoe on and the tongue got stuck but was no big deal.
Run
  • 22m 33s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Ok...This is where things fell apart. I pulled my calf two weeks ago and have not been able to run at all. Started running and immediately could feel it. I knew this wasn't good but kept going. Was following a couple of my bike buddies out of T2. Went down the first hill no more than a half mile in and my calf exploded. Felt like someone took a knife to it. I pulled off to the side and had to make the decision. Try to hobble the run or walk it back to T2. Told myself it is only a 5K and to try it again. Started out hobbling and was able to eventually get it going. However just couldn't open it up the way I wanted to. Ended up getting passed...and getting passed. It was demoralizing but tried to keep it together till the end. My run split suffered but was actually better than what I thought it was going to be. I definitely lost a couple minutes here and at least one AG position.
What would you do differently?:

Not be injured
Post race
Warm down:

Iced calf.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calf pull

Event comments:

This is a great race and a good indicator of where you stand in regards to the local talent. There were some fast dudes out there.
