Swim
Comments: My worst swim time in 5 ORRRC Splash & Dashes. But really that's to be expected with my absolute lack of pool time. I also went out too fast (first 100 in 1:30) but I guess when you don't swim this is to be expected. I didn't feel that bad all things considered. What would you do differently?: Swim more! Transition 1
Comments: (Transition time included in run split) I walked from the pool to the transition area with the appropriate amount of intensity but then I sort of lollygagged it a bit for me. My indecision on whether to grab gloves cost me a few seconds when I turned around to go get them after deciding not to use them. What would you do differently?: Act like I'm in a race! Run
Comments: Even when I swim consistently I'm not that fast so I usually make up for it on the run in this race. Unfortunately probably 2/3 of the course was still snow covered and some parts were very icy (I about went down on a patch of black ice). For the most part I ran fast when the path was clear and took it easy when it was icy and snowy. I left a bunch on the course but I didn't bust my ass so I'll call that a win. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Well maybe I should have thrown the yak traks on. Post race
Warm down: Cookies and a hot shower. My warm-down of choice. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of swim training. Snow and ice on the course. Event comments: First time I've done an ORRRC Splash and Dash since they skipped a year due to the pool closing at Kettering Rec in 2010. New race director seemed to do a good job. I do wish it had started on time instead of 30 min late. Last updated: 2013-01-06 12:00 AM

I have two kids under two. That morning is sort of a blur. Not sure what I did or what happened but I did make it to the event in time to make it into the first wave of swimmers.
I did about 3 laps in the pool and thought about how I had made it to the pool once in the previous 3 or 4 months.
