Comments:

i REALLY need to learn to drink more on the bike. it is very hard to drink when you are outta breath. i tried to drink more than last week, but it was much hotter than last week(+30 degrees)so i still needed more. something to work on.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

was a litle longer than it should been cause i ran back to get some gatorade.
What would you do differently?:

not run back to get gatorade and wait for it on the course.
Run
  • 25m 14s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

not a bad run but not great either. i walked through the aid stations. had i known that by not walking i woulda been sub 8s i wouldn't have walked. i didn't NEED to, it just felt like a good idea:) thank God for the partially shaded course.
Post race
Warm down:

drank bunches of liquids and hung out with new pals.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

maybe a little dehydration on the second half, part of the bike and second run. other than that, the fact that i'm training for ultras is not good for trying to increase speed. so that being said i'm pretty happy with the result.

Event comments:

nice venue.

wanted to start a little slower but was wearing just a HRM not a garmin-type thing. HR was in the 180's (Zone 3) the entire time.
Course: part paved road, part dirt road, a few rolling hills and mostly shaded, thank God.

Performance:
coupla big hills pushed me to 193 (2x) but stayed in zone 3 for most of it, mid 180s.
Wind: Some with gusts
Course: we had to ride through the park a ways to get the the roads, this was not planned well as we had to ride single file in this section. there was no room to pass people. so the rides out of an into the park were about 12 mph. not good. so outta the park it was nice. not really rolling hills but not necessarily flat either, there were a few nice sized hills and 2 large ones at the end. my goal on the bike was to hammer and not look back. i did this but when i thought i was climbing the last hill and got outta the saddle to hammer hard i about crapped my pants when at the top i saw another BIGGER hill right before the finish. i almost had to get off the bike for one that one. some dude that i passed on a downhill told me that his computer read 41 mph. whooo hooo!
