Run
Comments: I am in love with trail racing. Even though it rained for the first 2 miles (and left the course a muddy mess), I had a blast. I had people in sight _ and behind me _ the whole time, even though I'm slow - a blessing from normal races where I pull up the rear. The course was beautiful, well marked, and interesting. Plenty of aid stations - and they had pretzels & m&ms in addition to water & gatorade (although I partook (pretzels) at the station around 10 miles) - otherwise stuck to my routine of nuun in the camelbak and power chews. Brought my applesauce but was too lazy to unload it from my camelbak. What would you do differently?: Sign up for more trail races! Post race
Warm down: Walked around, ate a brat, took lots of pictures of my dirty legs and my medal. What limited your ability to perform faster: Some of the areas were muddy & required a little more care to pass, but otherwise, I walked when I need to and ran the rest. Knees good, mind good. Event comments: Definitely a keeper (and a great alternative to Shamrock in VA Beach - cheaper and I can sleep in my own bed). Would consider doing the full, but I think I want my next (2nd) full to be one with lots of crowd. I've already done a tiny full...and want something different. Last updated: 2013-01-10 12:00 AM

Drove to race site - ate lara bar and diet Dew (husband's beverage of choice...tough to get caffeine in the morning now that I'm off diet Pepsi) in the car. 40 minute drive.
Walking from parking lot to packet pickup & back to car. 2 visits to the loo - one flush, one porta. Another lara bar & Dew.
Standing in the rain, listening to anthem, sponsor greet & thank, etc. Marathon took off 10 minutes before we did.
