Comments:

This was a revenge race to my DNF in Atlanta earlier this year. So far the Marathon has had my number and I wanted to turn in a performance that I knew I was capable of. My training didn't start until mid September as I was still unsure if I wanted to do this one. Instead of logging big mileage like before and getting injured I took a different approach. 3 days a week running...intervals, a tempo, and a long run. Anyways I got to the start line healthy which was the goal. Now just time to let loose. The plan was to run with my sister through the first half and average an 8:00 average. Went through at 1:43.45 so we were right on target. I felt like I had hardly even exerted any energy the fist half so I was ready to roll for the second half. Left Amy at mile14 and picked up the pace. It was a windy day and mile 15-20 was directly into the wind and had a lot of hills. I was moving pretty good through here and picking off runners. Told myself to dial it back at mile 20 because I still had that last 10k to go. By mile 24 things got really tough and I told myself this race was in the bag but keep it moving. Around here I got passed for the first time since mile 14 which made me realize I was running this race the way it should be. My pace slipped the last two miles but was 41 seconds from even splitting the Mary. I was happy and new my lack of running base caused me to slip those last few miles.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...ran the first half very conservatively and was able to almost even split.
Post race
Warm down:

Hobbled around, stretched a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This year was an easy year with not a lot of focused training. It was nice to have a year where you didn't care how much you swam, biked or ran. Next year I hope to run this again but take all year to build my base before the final months before the Mary. If I can do that, I know I can take more time off.

Event comments:

Very well organized.
