Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4 AM. Ate some toast and peanut butter along with a Coke and Gatorade.
Event warmup:

Stretched and walked around. Transition was a full of water and there was overcast skies. Didn't get in the pool.
Swim
  • 11m 39s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

First 150 went well. Didn't quite understand the way the laps were done and got tripped up. Made me swallow a TON of water and needed to breaststroke for the next 150m. Lost a couple of minutes here. At least I go through it.
What would you do differently?:

Ask more questions about the way the lanes are structured.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 05m 9s
  • 21 miles
  • 19.36 mile/hr
Comments:

I was very pleased with my bike. Course was changed 3 times in the previous week because of flooding. The rain that started in the middle of the course was difficult to deal with. That last hill was NASTY!!!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing much to do differently except make sure you don't miss the second turnaround and add 3-4 miles on the Course!!!!!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 45m 54s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run. Legs felt very stiff and heavy for the first mile and a half. Once through that, everything went much better. I can't complain about this performance. I am definitely NOT a runner. Pacing is something that I have been working on and it's actually helped TREMENDOUSLY
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and kissed my son (He was waiting right at the finish line). It was Father's Day after all. Walked around and looked at the live results.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The changes to the course along with just the nervousness of it being my first ever triathlon. I can't complain. I did miss my goal of being under 2 hours, but I learned a lot and will definitely be better in the next race.

Event comments:

Having one volunteer at the second turnaround on the bike would have been a HUGE help. I wasn't the only competitor that missed it and added 4 miles to the ride. Great race for a first triathlon and probably one to keep doing just to see how I improve.
