Swim
Comments: This was my first open water tri/race event. I initially struggled with open water and having panic attacks, but I kept practicing in nearby lakes and was able to swim this course without a panic attack. I was still breathing much harder than I would have liked, but it is a good start. I was able to sight the bouys better than I thought I would, and I kept fairly straight lines. Overall I am very happy with this first tri swim! What would you do differently?: Try to get nerves under control better and slow down breathing and relax more. Transition 1
Comments: I could have been faster getting my shoes on, but had to dry my feet and wipe grass off before putting socks on. I also thought I lost my goggles, but then found them stuck in the arm of my wetsuit. ;) Note to self, when wetsuit strippers stip you, they mean business! :) It was great not having to fight with the wetsuit to get if off. What would you do differently?: leave goggles on until wetsuit is off to avoid worrying about losing them. Bike
Comments: Legs felt very heavy first half of the ride. Again, breathing was harder than I expected, probably because my HR never really went down. This course also had a lot of u-turns/and corners so there was a lot of slowing and speeding up. Seems to have taken a lot of energy! What would you do differently?: Need to practice swim/bike bricks..and work on my speed. Transition 2
Comments: It was very easy to switch to running gear, though I had to move my neighbors bike off of my mat and out of my spot on the rack... arhg! Space hogs are frustrating, especially when you try not to do that yourself! What would you do differently?: Felt like this one went pretty well overall. Run
Comments: Run was tough too! There was a pretty strong head wind for most of the race, and legs were just fatigued! HR stayed pretty high despite walking a few times, but I finished!! What would you do differently?: Just need to practice and train more! Post race
Warm down: Drank my complimentary mimosa with Mike and enjoyed having finished my first Tri! What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to keep working on my base and building strength and speed! Event comments: Very good and well run race! Last updated: 2013-01-17 12:00 AM
