Swim
Comments: The swim was VERY choppy and unfortunately I breathe mostly to the left, right where the chop was. I had to sidestroke the first half of the course because every time I tried to breathe, I got a mouthful of the lake. I rounded the buoy for the second half, took a 1 minute kayak break and swam the rest of the way. Very disappointed with the swim, BUT, happy to know I can sidestroke for a quarter mile if I need to! What would you do differently?: Get in some choppy water OWS swim practice prior to the event. Try harder to breathe on the right side instead of side stroking so much. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. I was just glad to be out of the water! What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Had an excellent bike split. Took several minutes off last year's time. I have been riding my tri bike exclusively and have had the chance to ride the bulk of the course several times this year. Managed to stay aero for all segments except the hills and just had a good solid ride. The bike is my strength and it really showed today. What would you do differently?: Not much. Was very happy with the ride. Transition 2
Comments: Very good transition. I HAVE to wear socks,so that slows me down a bit.Put on shoes and socks, grabbed race belt, hat and sunglasses and I was out of there. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I FELT like I was running faster this year, but my time was dead even with the 2012 race. I struggled to get my heart rate below 150. I didn't feel like I was running that slow, but there it is. I DID run the whole course except for the water stations. I can't run and drink water if my life depended on it! It was a good effort for me after battling the swim so hard! What would you do differently?: Run at a higher heart rate and try to get sub 12 minute miles. Post race
Warm down: Jumped in the lake to cool off, hung out at the finish line to see my training buds come in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Choppy water and not pushing my heart rate on the run. Event comments: This is my hometown race and my running club puts it on. It's one of the oldest triathlon's in Tennessee and it goes like clockwork. I'll continue to do this race as long as I'm able to race! Last updated: 2013-01-19 12:00 AM

Woke up, had buttered coffee, walked and fed the dogs then headed out to the race. Got my stuff set up in transition, hung out with friends, helped load water coolers with ice. Had a PayDay candy bar and a bottle of Generation Ucan about 30 minutes prior to start.
Swam approximately 200 yards and watch the water get choppier as the wind picked up.
