Swim
Comments: I've been having leaky goggle issues lately, and thought I'd had it resolved after Quassy. Nope. Couldn't get a seal at the start, and left goggle was flooded the entire swim. Basically swam blind the whole way. I was in the 8th wave, so ran into a more people than I wanted to catching up to the slower folks in front when I couldn't see them. Went way way off course on the back stretch, which cost me a few minutes. Water was really choppy, first time I've really experienced that (not counting Wallis which was just big ocean waves).. Also I was fighting off the twinges of cramps in the calves. What would you do differently?: I really need to get this goggle thing fixed, and I've gone through easily a dozen sets. Also, don't forget wet suit in the car. Rushing around, I forgot to glide my neck, so I've got a nasty burn. Transition 1
Comments: went with the shoes on bike, no problems. seems a bit slow overall coming out of the water. I wasn't wasting time, but feel like I maybe left a minute on the clock. What would you do differently?: ehh, pay for a personal wetsuit stripper. Bike
Comments: Definitely my strongest bike to date. I was feeling really strong and went off plan, which was 140's the first loop and then maybe 150s on the second. I ended up averaging 163. Great if I was aquabike, but paid for it on the run. I stuck with nutrition plan, 70 oz of drink, and a gu every 30. What would you do differently?: even if you feel great, don't go off plan (okay, maybe a little if you get a 20.5 avg over 56 Transition 2
Comments: pretty long run to transition from dismount. I maybe burned 30 seconds more than necessary. feet were hurting a little bit getting off the bike Run
Comments: burnt too many matches on the run. on plan the first 4 miles, but ended up reverting to around 10's and walking through most of the aid stations. Kept feeling like I was going to hurl on the run, which is getting repetitive, maybe need to drink less on the bike. mostly drank water and occasional coke. I was shuffling for a lot of the race. I'll get crushed if I replicate this at IMMT. You can fake your way thru a half, but not a full. What would you do differently?: stick to the plan, keep the power in line so that I don't blow up on the run. That said, I was still under 10, so i'll take it. Post race
Warm down: sat down for a little bit, got some water on the neck What limited your ability to perform faster: traded some run time for bike time, but pretty good. Lost time with the blind swim. I took over 30 minutes from my previous 70.3, so that was a HUGE improvement. Event comments: Mark Walter puts on a great race. It was nice running a race where I never got out of the big chain ring. Great volunteers, but weirdly pretty much ZERO local support. Only beef was that the sharpies they used to mark washed off every one in the water so nobody could tell who they were competing with out on the course Last updated: 2013-01-22 12:00 AM

Woke up early at the hotel, made my drinks up, ate 3 cups of apple sauce and a bonk breaker bar at 4:30. Ended up getting out of the hotel a little later than I wanted, but all good.
does sprinting back to my car because I forgot my wetsuit, cap and goggles count 10 minutes before they closed transition? I hope so, because that was my warm up.
