Swim
Comments: The water temp was a record 70 degrees and the water was very calm. Perfect conditions. I went into this swim with really no time goals at all. I felt like If I was comfortable and got out well that I could shoot for somewhere around a 14:00 flat. I felt amazingly comfortable in my first race and was very happy when I saw my time of 12:42. Waay better than I expected! What would you do differently?: I did a fair amount of sighting and felt like I did a good job of staying on track with my limited experience expecially. No major issues at all. Suit fits well. Transition 1
Comments: I had some trouble getting the wetsuit zipper down while running out of the water. It wasn't enough to slow me down in transition becasue the run up the beach was long enough for me to still get it pulled down in time. Wetduit pealed down just fine. I could do it quicker next time. Took too long to tie my shoes- I need some quick laces to speed things up a bit. I lost quite a bit of time tying my shoes. What would you do differently?: Get some speed laces and practice getting the wetsuit unzipped. Run
Comments: Overall 20:18~ 6:32 per/mile. I ran down several guys on mile 2 and a couple more after the last hill and back to the finish. Overall I felt pretty good. Took one cup of water to swish my mouth and then the rest went on my head and shoulders. I had sort of a slow start but made it up on the way back. Another guy and I pushed the last mile and took down one more on the way in. It was a good run. What would you do differently?: Other than going out a bit faster, I wouldnt change anything. Post race
Warm down: Not much warmdown. I ate a clif bar and had an energy drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: Transition Event comments: In all fairness to the organization, I felt like they did a good job and the fact that the bike leg was cancelled pretty much the night before didnt help them. I felt like the run course could have been better prepared and graded a little more (they said it had but I couldn't tell). Also they only had 8 porta-jons which led to really long lines. I would have said double the amount they had. The swim was great and the water temp was a record 70 degrees. I wish I could have done the bike course as it looked to be flat and fast. Woke up at 4am and had 2 cups of coffee, slice of bread with almond butter and one clif bar. Sipped some HEED as well. Drove over to Longmont which is about 45-50 minutes away and arrived in transition early.
Receied a text and email at about 7PM the night before that the bike leg was cancelled due to the traffic barrier company going out of business. What! I was pretty bummed initially but then realized that it was still a great first time opportunity for me. I can't say that I have done a triathlon but that day will not come on June 1st.....
Did about a 10-15 minute run warmup and then about 200 Meter swim warmup. This was the fist time I have been in open water and swimming with my new wetsuit I just got comfortable during the warmup. I felt fresh and ready to race.
