Swim
Comments: I had not been doing much training in the swim section. I grew up swimming since I was 4 and through high school. Swimming has always been the strongest section for me. I started off to the side of the wave to not get caught up with the mass of people. I was hit and grabbed a few times while I was swimming. I finally went to the outside of the pack and just stayed there so I could get into a rhythm. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Swim went really well in my eyes Transition 1
Comments: Since it is a 2 transition race, you have to shove all your stuff into a bag for transport. Bike location spots were a little cramped together but the transition as a whole went really well. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: The bike course was described on the Rev3 website as "along rolling hills and farm country, with a few climbs and some “big ring” action for you too." I believe a few climbs is incorrect. There was not a single flat section on the entire course anywhere. Every time you could get into a rhythm on the bike and down in aero you would hit either a turn or another hill. There were some crazy fast people on the bike section. I was passed by a few people who made me look like I was sitting still. My one shinning moment was that I did pas a few people with some very high end bikes and fancy disc wheels while I was riding my old aluminum frame bike with non fancy wheels...just reminds me that it is more of the engine than the bike. The bike course did have a fantastic venue and was a very scenic ride. What would you do differently?: Pre ride part of course to understand elevation changes. Train more on hills. Transition 2
Comments: Had a great dismount at the line. Went to rack bike but things were really tight due to bikes being very close together. I was pleased with how my ability to get through the transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Course was described as a road and trail course. All was done on roads. I got of the bike having had my butt kicked on the hilly bike course to continue the butt kicking on the rolling hill run course. Started feeling good. Legs felt very tired due to the bike course. Goal was a 1:50 run time but went I felt how my legs were reacting I decided to just keep things steady and smooth. I made sure I just kept my legs moving even though I could feel the cramps starting to come into play. I am ok with how the run went. I was not fully prepared for how hilly the course was going to be. What would you do differently?: Spend more time on hills and preview the course prior to race. Post race
Warm down: Took pictures with family and walked around the finish line area with family. Talked with a few friends and had a gatorade and unsweet tea to drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: The course contained a lot more hills than I was expecting. It was my fault for not previewing the course prior to race. If I had trained more on hills I could have saved legs more for run. Event comments: Rev3 put on a great race! The support the race had from the staff to the volunteers was fantastic. I was very happy with the race and was very happy that Rev3 puts on a great family oriented race and race venue. Would do this race again. Last updated: 2013-01-31 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:15am. Had a 45 minute drive to race location. Had a bowl of oatmeal and cup of coffee for breakfast before leaving house. Had a peanut butter cream pie during the drive to the race venue. Race was a 2 transition so took time to set both locations up. Got to T2 and found a flat real tire. Swapped tubes out and triple checked the rim and tire to make sure nothing was in there...everything went well.
Got in a short little swim prior to race start to get the blood flowing.
