Swim
Comments: I was really caught off guard with how the swim went down. Also, i had tinted goggles which were fogged up so i couldnt see much of anything. I was running into bodies left and right, and had a hard time sighting. I ended up only breathing on my left, sighting almost every breath. Part of the reason i kept running into people was that my wave started second to last, so I was passing the entire time. What would you do differently?: Use clear goggles, jostle for position better. Transition 1
Comments: It was hard to pull my shirt over my head, spent at least a few minutes on that. It was an underarmor shirt which kinda stuck to my body. Bike
Comments: The course was flat and fast. There was beautiful scenery. It was warm, but i never felt overheated. I opted to use the nutrition on the course which worked out excellent, the GU and perform didn't mess with my stomach at all. The volunteers were great, only had to slow down once to get what i wanted. Transition 2
Comments: I decided to take it easy, used the bathroom, and took a minute to stretch out. Run
Comments: My right quad was cramping a little right off the bike so i took it easy the first half mile. I got into the high 6 min/miles for about 3 miles after that then lost the mental stamina and just cruised the rest of the way. I didn't want to kill myself knowing i had work on monday morning still. The aid stations were superb, i poured ice down my tucked-in shirt every chance i got which kept me very cool. I speed-walked the aid stations and poured a cup of water over my head, drank a perform, stopped taking gu because i was just tired of eating. What would you do differently?: Cranked it up if i was going for time. Post race
Warm down: Pack up bike, drive to airport whilst sponge bathing, sprint to terminal What limited your ability to perform faster: Knowing i had work the next day was a mental block. I didnt train on the bike enough outdoors, with weather being a limiting factor. Event comments: This race was a blast, a great pick for my first HIM. Most everything was organized and ran smoothly. Volunteers were great, i thanked all of them that i saw. The swim was rough for me just because i didnt know what to expect. The bike course was gorgeous and fast. And the run was good because we got lots of fan support and nutrition (especially ice to cool down). One gripe was the run course cut off the ONLY EXIT from the parking lot, and i almost missed my flight because of the backup. Last updated: 2013-01-31 12:00 AM

I ate a pasta dinner the night before and watched a good pump up movie. I didnt bother trying to fall asleep early because i knew i'd just lay in bed perseverating over the race, so I watched movies and TV till 10:30ish. Morning of, I woke up at 4:20, ate a bagel, banana, yogurt. Arrived at transition around 5:45 to set up my gear and prep my bike. I chugged 20 oz of Coke 1:30 before my start at 8:30, and used the bathroom shortly after drinking my pre race coke.
Swung my arms back and forth.
