Swim
Comments: Last out of the water. Total panic attack.. just tried to not die with a combination of head up crawl and backstroke. Epic fail. What would you do differently?: Everything. Need OWS practice. Need wetsuit practice. Need a psychologist. Transition 1
Comments: Trying to settle down from the panic on the swim and getting out of my wetsuit for the first time... i actually think this went quite well. Just a little work to get my right foot out, otherwise, I have no complaints about this. It was easy, being the only one in transition though... What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: Was really happy with what happened out on the road. Pushed hard, but not too hard. Felt comfortable on the bike. Good gear changes, but have a hell of a squeak on my bottom bracket now. What would you do differently?: Just drink a bit more... was pretty parched for the ride, but was wary of drinking, as I over-drank on my last race. Transition 2
Comments: Because I was almost last in, getting my bike racked was delicate as to not trash the other bikes around me, but better than Tri #1. Got everything else taken care of pretty well. A little wobbly on the legs... noticed I was already starting to run out of steam right from the start. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I was slow. I knew it. I should have pushed through uncomfortable more. I think I just lost my motivation when i saw how far behind i was and there was no one close by to keep up with. That being said, the volunteers were great, as were the other racers at giving encouragement right to the end. The announcer was moving over to the awards ceremony as I was coming in, but stopped to call me in, which made me feel great. I was mentally done at about 2K, and looking back, ran better than tri #1, but just gave up too easily too often. Need more HTFU. What would you do differently?: Push harder no matter who was or was not around at that point. Set small "run to here before walking" goals to assist. Don't give up until the race is over. Post race
Warm down: Not much... 5-y.o. daughter had just had enough by then, so i just focused on getting food into her so she would chill. Would have liked to stretch and enjoy the atmosphere, but family was antsy so we just left. Maybe I'll leave them at home next time. :S What limited your ability to perform faster: Mentally and physically drained after panic on the swim. Missed several key workout weeks due to family illness this spring. Just felt so tired at about 2k into the run. Didn't have any juice left. Event comments: Don't have much to compare to, but I thought it was a great race and a well-run event! i have lots to learn to get more out of the events, and my family has lots to learn about letting me have better prep/cool down time too. I would happily do this race again. Last updated: 2013-02-01 12:00 AM

Just navigated the chaos... this was only my second event and my first Sprint distance, and we got there later than I would have wanted... folks were being greedy in transition so i had to do some shuffling to get my bike on the rack and towel laid out. So many amazing athletes... I'm not one of them, so there was a little intimidation at seeing how amazing the company I was in was.
The water was chilly - about 16*C - so just tried to get wet and move around, get used to the wetsuit as it was my first time ever wearing one. Did a little freestyle and realized that I was going to have trouble getting my face in AGAIN. oh dear...
