Pre-race routine:

Walked around with Cassandra, got our chips, etc. Talked with friends. Watched the kids start. Watched Cassandra and the women start.
Event warmup:

Not much. Swam a few minutes. No need to acclimate to the water temp. Hot day and warm water.

The pond was a lot cleaner than I had thought it would be. I started really slow and then just enjoyed a slow swim.

Swim faster.

I was extremely thirsty coming out of the short swim. I tanked water before the swim so I can only think that nerves played a big part. The water in the bottle on my bike was warm and didn't go down easy but I forced it. I had played with the settings on my clip-less pedals for some reason. NEVER do this right before a race. I kept coming out of one pedal. Frustrating!
What would you do differently?:

Keep the water cold in a ice chest! Verify the pedal settings.

Started thirsty as I was thirsty on most of the bike segment. This was my first run race and I didn't get much water down from the little cup! I later learned there's a technique. Go figure. My legs felt heavy the first 200 yards. That was an interesting feeling.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out the thirst issue.

This was my first triathlon! I had an absolute blast. My overall ranking includes the kids race where there probably were about 60 or more kids ahead of me.
