Swim
Comments: Race started with a winners wave cannon start, with all others going time trial. Not wanting to wait for a time trial, and wanting the atmosphere of a group start, I went for the winners wave. Strange to get that opportunity, but I"ll take it. What would you do differently?: Train more. Water was warm, almost non-wetsuit warm. Storms earlier in the week had left a nasty manure taste to the water. Guess that's what you get being in a rural reservoir. Glad I didn't see the E.Coli count before the race. Transition 1
Comments: Second fastest T1 in age group, 7th fastest men overall. Bike
Comments: I ran out of gas on the return of the second loop. Turned south and hit the headwind and I was done. Drank too much and had to stop at the portolet twice on the second loop. Only water was available at the aid stations, that sucked, though I made do. Turns out I could have gone without due to the cool weather for the bike. The bike course itself was great. Roads were great, smooth, and great countryside to ride in. What would you do differently?: Drink less for the conditions, which is tough because it got sunny and hot later so I'd be drinking a lot. Transition 2
Comments: I wasn't in a hurry, as I'd sort of given up on the race. What would you do differently?: Train Run
Comments: Sun came out blazing on the run. I had over hydrated, and needed a port o let. Missed the one in transition, and they didn't have one on the run course until mile 6 at the park. That sucked! The runs up the hills sucked, but the rail corridor was nice and flat, even though I was out of gas. Nice scenery. What would you do differently?: Train Post race
Event comments: For an inaugural event, it was ok. Not at all the Ironman atmosphere, but still a small local race. Pre-race communication was lacking, and it did seem a bit disorganized, but came together in the end. Shirt was nice, medal sucked. Last updated: 2013-02-04 12:00 AM

Setup transition and waited for race start. Very small race, only 250 competitors. About 30 minutes before race start, a downpour let loose and soaked the area. Luckily I had some trash bags to put my stuff into otherwise shoes and everything else would have been soaked.
None really. Didn't worry about getting in to swim warm up. Water was quite warm.
