Swim
Comments: I had been having shoulder problems since Monday, so was not excited about this swim. It got a little sore towards the end, but held up fine. The swim waves were pretty small, and people got spread out very quickly, so it left no real opportunity for drafting. However, I managed to start with someone who swam the same pace as me. We were next to each other for over half the course and it was nice to have someone around as a distraction. After she pulled away, I looked back to see people drafting off of ME. Thought "holy crap, I'm a real swimmer!" What would you do differently?: Nothing. Killed my personal goal of a triathlon swim in under 2:00/100 yards. Transition 1
Comments: 12/32 transition place There was a fairly lengthy run into transition, and this is the first time I had no trouble running in my wetsuit. Somehow thought my sunglasses would stay in my helmet until I mounted the bike. Not so much. Got stuck behind some slow and leisurly dude in the bike exit. Grr. What would you do differently?: See above. Bike
Comments: This course was a lot of fun, I'd love to have something like this near me to train on. Used my aerobars almost the entire way, even though I never train with them. Experienced pain in my left hip flexor towards the end, so had to back off just a little bit. Overall I am very happy with this bike. Lots of women in the 35-49yo wave passed me. I hope I am that hot when I am 39. I also hope I ride that fast. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Just need to keep riding! Met my personal goal of over 18.5 mph in a triathlon bike leg. Transition 2
Comments: 5/32 AG I had a pretty sweet bike dismount in front of the crowd. Did a little split thing after I swung my leg over (picture Mary Catherine Gallagher from the old SNL doing "superstar", except while getting off a bike). I'm just a klutz, so kind of used to people going "oooh" all sympathetic-like. Yelled "style points!", got a laugh, and went on my way. Got stuck behind another slow and leisurely dude, this time in the run exit. Didn't feel like being polite this time, so I passed this one. Run
Comments: Anyone who reads my logs knows I've been having a hard time with the run lately. I gave up a few places in my AG with this run, as usual. Felt great right away, and strong throughout, just not able to really push it. The pace I started with was the pace I maintained until the last mile when I finally picked it up a wee tiny bit. Not really surprising because my longest workout to date was 2:12, so maybe I was just not used to this duration. Good news is that I could have kept that pace for another few miles if needed. My timing chip was really rubbing, and ended up with a nice little battle wound on my ankle. What would you do differently?: This is a work in progress. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and ate stuff. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing out of the ordinary. Event comments: This was a great race and a great course. It's easy to see why it sells out every year. One question though - Why don't they offer size SMALL t-shirts? Last updated: 2006-06-14 12:00 AM

Bagel w/CC. Not as much water as usual this time. Bad. Checked out of motel and drove to race site to setup. Kept trying to figure out why I wasn't nervous.
nothing.
