Pre-race routine:

Woke up with tummy troubles which were quickly resolved with an immodium. One bagel with pb and butter and sipped on a GU brew.
Event warmup:

200 easy in pool.
Swim
  • 07m 6s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really happy with my swim time of 7:06. I'm a little surprised, because I never beat 7:20 when I do time trials on my own at practice. Started out decent and had a little trouble around the halfway point when we encountered a slow swimmer. SInce there were people coming back down the lane, I had to wait for the right opportunity to pass. Finally got by and caught up to hubby, drafting him and driving him nuts by touching his feet the last 200, haha.
What would you do differently?:

A clean trip would have definitely led to a sub-7. But still, extremely satisfied with this swim since I am really a lousy swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Slow transition, especially considering my shoes are pre-clipped. Struggled a little with my watch, glasses and helmet.
What would you do differently?:

Forgot to take swim cap off during run to transition.
Bike
  • 45m 11s
  • 16 miles
  • 21.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a good bike and would have had a GREAT bike if I hadn't missed a turn. I thought the sheriff was waving at me to turn right but he was waving at the cars. Oops. Figured it out only about 50 yards down the road, but then got caught up in a little traffic. Probably only lost a minute. Otherwise, the ride went really well and I noticed a much higher cadence with the compact crank. Points for the new Ridley!
What would you do differently?:

Know the course! Still happy with the fastest bike split of women by about 4 minutes.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Got feet out of shoes before t-2 but I still don't have the balls to do the flying dismount. I let the bike completely stop before dismounting but it still saves time. Learning the flying dismount might have to be my next goal.
Run
  • 21m 19s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

Happy with my run. It took about 2 miles to get comfortable but still had probably my strongest run ever in a tri. Hit my best stride late and probably could have maintained pace for another mile or two.
What would you do differently?:

My legs were pretty heavy starting out and I think I overdid it early this week with the time trial, hard spin class, tempo run and bricks. An easier week would have probably helped things even more.
Post race
Warm down:

Mile jog on the grass.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hard training week and missing a turn and pool traffic.

Event comments:

Love the series. Excited to have knocked 4 1/2 minutes off last year's time and won by almost 6 minutes. That really motivates me to keep on training and tri-ing!
