Swim
Comments: Not a good swim for me. What would you do differently?: Swim base isn't bad. I need more longer interval training...say 4 X 400 work with a 30 second rest to adjust to the more aggressive pace that I need to maintain. Transition 1
Comments: A little trouble running with the bike barefoot up to the mount area because of the cut on my foot. Otherwise, not a bad transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Good bike course. Kind of sucks being in a late wave as it was quite challenging to get around so many people on the bike course. There were about 1100 finishers. I was in the last wave with about 250 people. I finished 109...which means at a minimum I has to pass about 900 racers,a big chunk of those on the bike course. Most people ride to the right, but there were a few folks that were very slow to move right to allow passing. What would you do differently?: Nothing, except keep training. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: The cut on my foot really didn't cause problems except when I would go around corners (which pulled on the cut) or when I stepped on the rocks/coral on the trail sections and it was like being stabbed on the wound. The bigger issue was stomach cramps. Started in the first mile and I has to stop to walk by mile 2. I walked for a bit and stretched and it gradually got better...gone by the end of the race. I've had stitches before but this was much worse. It probably cost me a minute to 90 seconds in my final time but since the next guy in my AG was 6 minutes ahead, it didn't make a difference in the outcome. What would you do differently?: Not cut my foot, maybe drink more electrolytes on the bike to lower cramping. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Cookies, bananas and beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: More swim training Event comments: Fun race, great location. Do it if you can! Was shooting for top 5 in my age group and ended up 6th. So, not bad for the first race of the season...but a long way to go! Last updated: 2013-02-24 12:00 AM

Not much. Got up at 4:30, had oatmeal, applied suncreen, had coffee, then got on my bike to ride to the course which was about a mile away.
Nothing. Had a cut on my foot which made running difficult. I was worried about the tape on my foot coming loose prior to the swim, so I really didn't do anything other than a short swim. Not good.
